Our entry level Open Water certification for teens is a relaxed, fun and safe way to enter the fabulous underwater world. Scuba Marco's 4 day course is straight-forward and designed for young divers ages 10 to 14!  All components of our youth course conveniently take place right here on Marco Island and it's nearshore waters.  The schedule is Monday through Thursday from 9:00 to 3:00 meeting at Scuba Marco all days.

How do I start? Sign Up Online!

We can certify anyone with the desire and the determination to become a scuba diver, from ages 10 and up! We streamline our Open Water Certification classes to complete the certification in four days. To start...

Prep work is done online with the PADI website. Typically, the online work takes around 10 hours to complete, and once it's completed, we move on to the review, pool and practical scuba instruction sessions. If you haven't already, let us know as you sign up with PADI. Feel free to call us with questions and concerns!

Day 1: Classroom Review, Intro to Dive Equipment, & Pool Time

Your instructor will review key points you learned in the home study portion and answer any questions you might have. We will set up a 'scuba unit' and demonstrate its features. We also complete all the pre-dive paperwork: release forms, knowledge reviews, etc. If needed we will outfit you with snorkel gear. We have superb equipment at excellent prices and guarantee your satisfaction.  After Lunch we will head over to our heated pool to begin developing underwater scuba skills.  Let's blow some bubbles!

Day 2: More Pool Training

A nice relaxed day of diving and playing underwater.  We take as long as needed to ensure all skills are mastered and each diver becomes comfortable in the water.   Make sure your diver has plenty of mineral based reef safe sunscreen.

Days 3 & 4: Open Water Dives

Let's dive! We will do dives 1 & 2 in Tarpon Bay, entering the water off of a dock. No currents or waves means no potential seasickness!

For dives 3 & 4 we will be onboard our 32 ft. Twin Vee custom dive boat, the Psychquatic and big thrills await! For more details see About Gulf Diving. If time is a constraint or if the weather isn't cooperating with your schedule, we can do dives 3 & 4 in Tarpon Bay if need be to complete your certification.

Finally, we wrap up your certification by logging your dives and taking a salty 'glamour shot' for your Open Water Diver certification card!

The Fine Print:  Your comfort level and proficiency in the water is our priority! We understand that there is a lot of information to comprehend and we all learn at our own pace. We’ve trained thousands of divers over 25 years and are well versed at helping students overcome any anxieties they may have. Poor weather could potentially alter the days we meet up. Earning the Jr. Open Water course is performance based so more time (days) may be required (at no additional charge). Jr. Open Water Certifications automatically upgrade to regular certifications upon their 15th birthday.

At Scuba Marco, patience & kindness are always free!

What you'll need...

Students are responsible for snorkeling gear; dive mask, snorkel, fins, a wetsuit (if needed). We strongly recommend purchasing this equipment if not already owned. These components are sized to fit and there is a hygiene factor (snorkels go into mouths). They can also be rented and Scuba Marco sanitizes all gear after every use (but we can't vouch for other shops that you may visit in the future). If at any point during training you're not happy with any item purchased from us, we will gladly exchange it! If you already have snorkel gear, bring it in and we will let you know if it’s dive quality.  Please make sure to bring lunch and a water bottle, dry clothes, a towel and sunscreen if needed.

Training Material

Online courses are very popular and are also available on mobile devices although PC’s are less glitchy. To start click on the 'PADI eLearning GET STARTED' hyperlink above. If you access PADI's site without going through our site (the hyperlink above), be sure to select Scuba Marco as your dive shop affiliation so we can be notified of your progress!

Equipment

The Open Water Certification includes rental of the Scuba Unit (Regulator, BCD, Dive Computer, Tanks & Weight). We are a SCUBAPRO Platinum Dealer and our student gear is new and top notch! If you love diving we will take the time to assess your needs and guide you through the purchase of equipment that best suits you. We turn our student equipment over regularly so if you desire to save some money. Don't forget our 'We Will Make It Right' guarantee, we stand behind the used gear we sell for a year. If at any point during training you're not happy with any product you've purchased, we will gladly exchange it!

Fees: PADI Course $230 + Scuba Marco Practical $599 = $829

The $230 fee for the online training is paid directly to PADI on their website. Scuba Marco's fee covers instruction, pool expense, dive boat fees, use of the scuba system and the certification. Everything except mask, snorkel, fins and wetsuit (if needed). The shop fee is collected upon registration.  Payment plans are available.

MEDICAL CONCERNS

There are some medical conditions that don’t jive with scuba diving. If you’re generally healthy and a non-smoker you shouldn’t have any issues. There is amedical questionaire that we ask you to please read through. If there are any conditions that apply to you, there is a scuba physical form that your doctor will need to fill out in order to approve you for the physical activities presented when scuba diving. Let us know and we can send it to you. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask. We also have a local doctor here who is acquainted with scuba physicals, should you need one.
