Get Scuba Certified!

"Scuba Diving is a magical place where both excitement and relaxation simultaneously fill my being. Every dive site is a different zoo, nature is in full bloom, and for a short while, my soul is content as I forget the world above." ~ Captain Jeff

Our entry level PADI Open Water certification is a fast, fun and safe way to enter the fabulous underwater world. Your certification card will enable you to dive anywhere in the world, buy or rent equipment, and never expires. We can complete training in as little as 3 days, and can certify students as young as age 10!

How do I start? Sign Up Online!
We can certify anyone with the desire and the determination to become a scuba diver, from ages 10 and up! We stream line our Open Water Certification classes to complete the certification in four sessions. To start...

Prep work is done online with the PADI website. You have the option of choosing: eLearning (for computers) or Touch (for tablets and smartphones). Typically, the online work takes around 8 hours to complete, but once it's completed, we can move on to the classroom, pool and practical scuba instruction sessions.

From the date of your initial registration, each Open Water Student is allowed 12 months to finish their certification, so this online work may be completed from the comfort of your home - giving you one less thing to stress about while you’re on vacation!

Professional & Convenient

After finishing the home study we will meet at the shop for Session 1: the classroom review. After that we move on to Session 2: pool training, which most students complete in one session. Your comfort is key, and additional pool sessions, if needed, are free. Sessions 3 & 4: Open water dives complete the certification!

There is a medical questionaire (click HERE) that we ask you to please read through. If there are any conditions that apply to you, there is a scuba physical form that your doctor will need to fill out in order to approve you for the physical activities presented when scuba diving. Let us know and we can send it to you. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask. We also have a local doctor here who is acquainted with scuba physicals, should you need one.

Session 1: Classroom Review & Intro to Dive Equipment
Your instructor will review key points you learned in the home study portion and answer any questions you might have. We will set up a 'scuba unit' and demonstrate its features. This is also when we complete all the pre-dive paperwork: release forms, knowledge reviews, etc. If you need to buy or rent snorkel gear we have superb equipment at excellent prices and guarantee your satisfaction. Duration is 2.5 to 3 hours.

Session 2: Pool Training
Let's blow some bubbles! Relaxing and breathing through your mouth is all it takes. We will assemble and test equipment, then learn and practice scuba skills. Patience is key as we help you down the path to scuba proficiency.
Duration: 2 to 4 hours depending on class size & comfort level.

Sessions 3 & 4: Open Water Dives (done over 2 days)
Let's dive! We may do dives 1 & 2 in Tarpon Bay, entering the water off of a dock. No currents or waves means no potential seasickness!
Tarpon Bay requires about 4 hours.

For dives 3 & 4 we will be aboard our 32 ft. Twin Vee dive boat, the "Psychquatic" and big thrills await! (for more details see About Gulf Diving).
If time is a constraint and the weather isn't cooperating with your schedule, don't worry - we can always do dives 3 & 4 in Tarpon Bay in a pinch.

Finally, we wrap up your certification by logging your dives and taking a glamour shot for your scuba certification card!

We may combine the review with the pool or the pool with dives 1 & 2 to save time if needed. On the other hand, if you don't have time restraints, you have up to 12 months to complete the Open Water Certification.

At Scuba Marco, patience & kindness is always free!

What you'll need...
Students are responsible for training material, dive mask, snorkel, fins, a wetsuit (if needed), and a logbook.

Training Material
Online courses are very popular and are also available on mobile devices. Visit PADI.com to get signed up for your Open Water Certification. Be sure to set Scuba Marco as your dive shop so we can be notified of your progress!
The SSI program is $175 payable to Scuba Marco, and we will supply your online training code.

Equipment
The Open Water Certification includes everything except for a dive mask, fins and a snorkel. These can certainly be rented here at the shop, but most new divers prefer to own their own, since these are the most personal items in a dive kit.

We offer a build-your-own snorkel package so you can get exactly what you want at a discounted rate! Dive quality snorkel packages start at just $150 and include a mask, fins, snorkel, gloves, save-a-dive kit, anti-fog, a gear bag and more. For your certification, you'll also need a logbook to keep record of your diving experience.

Don't forget our 'We Will Make It Right' Guarantee: If at any point during training you're not happy with any product we can gladly exchange it!
