Captain Jeff's Chronicle April 07
ScubaMarco Captain’s Chronicles     April ‘07 v3 I get a little claustrophobic this time of the year, our little island is riding low.  Prime time to escape to the west!  This C.C. is going to be to the point.  We are going to change the service we email through (too many people not receiving, I just didn’t get a test I sent to myself).  That’s one project still on the to do list.  Damn list gets bigger the harder I work?  So lack of time is the prime reason for the briefness.  I do want to fill you in on the local diving and remind any of you who actually receive this about: Diving - Clubs SCA NEXT MEETING; THURSDAY APRIL 5th  (TOMORROW)  You don’t have to climb a ladder to experience a slide®.  Join us 6-9PM @ The shop. Recent Events:Last months meeting was crus-taste-ious!!!  Thanks to all for coming. Our bowling outing was awesome!  There’s talk of a SCUBAMARCO Bowling Team? Future Events:Late afternoon beach-boat-bbq?  I’ll bring the frisbees (golf), horseshoes, & bocci balls!  Grand Cayman trip:   The dates have been pushed back to October 20th - 27th. We’re booked at the gorgeous Sunset House.  Call / drop by for more info and a verbal sales pitch: (239) 389-7889.   Nekton Pilot / Cay Sal Banks:  This September trip is going to be awesome!  It’s filling up quick so bring me those tax return checks.         Diving - LocalThe full moon yesterday (April 2nd, the day the mighty GATORS REPEATED as NCAA BASKETBALL CHAMPIONS!) has the water flowing to the point where it’s creating a murky layer within about 10 feet of the bottom.  However, over the last week in the 12 to 15 feet of vis, we had encounters with huge Loggerheads on four of five trips.  These awesome mammals are congregating near shore to mate.  March and April are always prime months for tortuga encounters in southwest Florida. The first quarter moon and strong prevailing easterly winds the latter part of March brought in a “visibility reversal”, clearer water closer in.  The 2 mile culverts had 20 feet of vis and close to a dozen Goliath Grouper, 1 going about 400 lbs.  We had turtle encounters at the NW corner of the 5 mile reef, and Bogan’s Barge (which held another 400 pounder).   The newer pass shrimper (I call it BUBBA) also provided a couple nice dives.  It features a couple beams jutting out parallel to the bottom.  The higher is about 15 feet long and 12 feet up.  Always at least four 200 ponders there. Water’s getting there, 73 degrees at the 9 mile reef and ledge (which held a turtle) today.Dust off the gear and get ready!  Live while you can!  Let’s excel at diving like theGATORS excel in hoops (and football too!).  A double repeat?

Again, until Thursday, April 5th, 6 PM, @ 1141 Bald Eagle Dr.   Spread love!  Capt. Jeff
